Review of Cheyenne, Wyoming

Cheyenne is a joke!
Star Rating - 2/5/2007
I agree 100% with another poster who's view of Cheyenne is exactly what I experience on a daily basis. I also moved here from NYC a few years ago and my experience here has also not been positive. I do not agree that people here are friendly, it is just the opposite. I do not think that people here were ever taught to say Thank you or to say excuse me when wanting to pass by in a crouded Walmart or Target. Culturally Cheyenne is castrated, no museums unless you count the western museums and music is basically limited to country western stations on the radio and country western performers at Frontier Days. In NYC people are very into fitness and taking care of their appearance, people take pride in the way they look when going to work and school. I am 42 and I work out and eat right, the majority of the people here are overweight, and are chainsmoking alcoholics. The young people here look as if they roll out of bed when going to school, just for the record pajama bottoms are for bed time. Driving is terrible, people do not use turn signals and most of the people drive under the speed limits and do not let u pass unless y ou go around them. In all, I am pretty much out of here. I can make better money in NY and know that I do not have to deal with drunken noisy neighbors all hours of the night. The job market also sucks, this is why the majority of the young people leave when they graduate.

This commentator actually understates how awful Cheyenne is. For people of normal social attitudes and vibrancy it is difficult to believe how shabby and depressing the people and community taken as a whole are. Even the successful professionals are the least interesting and drabbest and least qualified in their field in the U.S. I worked at a place of business and three foreign students from Eastern Europe arrived in Cheyenne, and, being allowed a couple of days before starting work, contacted their sponsor indicating they would not stay in Cheyenne. You'd better be happy just staying at home and working in your yard, because if you need social stimulation in the form of interesting people and social and cultural venues it is a real nightmare.

you must have missed the State Museum in the center of town. Museums cannot display everything they have at one time and this sometimes makes them dull. Not that I am standing up for Cheyenne, the government people (micro dictators) think just because they say it it is law. More than half of the elected officials do not have a clue what is going on next to them let alone in the community. They are so geared in spending money to build a ball park, decorate the center of the road or round about that they do not see the larger picture. Raising tax and spending money is not the way to fix a community it is a way to piss-off the ones that are already feeling the tax burden. The police on the other had have armored vehicles and automatic firearms in the trunk. Who needs that in the US? Me! I am more scared of the police than the crooks. I do not feel protected I feel subdued. Besides that, 75% of the public have no clue about rules of the road and how to make a turn. Bottom line is. Cheyenne is a nice place to visit, watch out for other drivers. There are a few things to do while in town but nothing you could not have done at home. Visit the mountains you will be happier. I give Cheyenne a 10, entertainment a 5, micromanagement want to be’s. a 1. The 1 is because they would do everyone a favor to quit and move on to a place where they could be of use (“Would you like fries with that?”) Na! I take that back, even there they would be telling me how I would want my fries.
