I would say Columbus is an "it'll do" city. It's not a place to rave about, nor is it a place to complain about. It also has this up-and-growing feel to it. Not that it will become a mega-city anytime soon, but there seems to be encouraging signs of growth. I guess it's what people say is a small town with a big city feel.
Your satisfaction with Columbus totally depends on where you live. As a 26yr old professional I would tell anyone my age stay away from the north! Choose one of the villages. I live in the Short North and love the fact that I can walk to everything. There is a grocery store, library, tanning/laundromat, hardware store, video store, and doggy daycare all within a two block radius. I can walk to tons of cool restaurants, a movie theater, several parks, several churches, three of the summer festivals and lots of shops. All of these are within a mile and also don't require crossing any huge streets. Obviously, for me, walking is HUGE.
I go back and forth deciding whether I want to stay in this city. I think my biggest problem is the fact that I grew up in Florida, and I miss the warm weather. Boy do I miss palm trees! Weather aside, the city does have everything I need. I've found great friends here and never have a problem finding something to do. Another big thing keeping me here is family of course. Being just over an hour away makes that a more personal reason to stay.
In short, there is not one thing keeping me from moving but a million reasons why it's still working for me. It's a place that might be better as a temporary hub for some, but whether it is short-term or a place you want to plant your feet--"it'll do."
