Columbus is the largest city in Ohio and the Capital of Ohio.
We experience all 4 seasons very distinctly. Cold winters, some snow...we don't get burried in snow like Cleveland, nor do we get the ice storms that Cincinnati gets. We see more sunshine in the winter and don't ususally get blasted too hard or long, like Northeast Ohio does. Spring is usually fairly chaotic with lots of changes...very midwestern. Summers are warm to hot and can be humid, but not like Cincinnati which is hot, sticky and very little air movement in the vallies...we have a breeze usually to at least keep the air moving and the air polution to a minimum. Fall is usually very pleasant and sunny. The leaves are beautiful and the apples are delicious and crisp!
We are a large market for concerts and other cultural events, we are know as a "shoppers paradise" with lots of malls and a vide variety of stores, and an abundance of restaurants. We are home of Ohio State University and a number of other very good colleges and universities. Diversity is big in Columbus...large GLBT, Somali, Hispanic comunities. Love the German village and the Arena distict, Short North, Victorian VIllage, Clintonville, etc... Lots of festivals and outdoor parties! Great foods! Great gyms and healthclubs, as well as nightlife! Healthcare is very good...especially at the OSU hospital..."World class"! Columbus is a growing city, the economy is better in Columbus that almost anywhere else in the state, taxes are about average for the state, transportation is pretty good and traffic isn't particularly bad for a city of almost 2 million. Jobs are available and if you aren't employed, its because you haven't looked or tried. Housing is pretty available and prices are relatively affordable. Many neighborhoods, beautiful older homes and new homes, suburbs, etc. Love the metro parks and the bike trails. particularly Glacier Ridge, Highbanks and the Olentangy Trail! For a big city, Columbus feels friendly, relaxed and clean. If you can't find it in Columbus you aren't looking very hard! Columbus is at the center of Ohio and is less than 3 hours, by car, from any part of the state. Very easy to get around....maybe I should be on the chamber of commerce...LOL! Yes I have lived in other places...Cleveland, Akron, Dayton, NYC, St. Louis, Lubbock....Columbus is a good fit!
