Well, I loved it!

I'm a Midwest native and loved my time in Columbus. Within Ohio, it seemed more expansive, easygoing, and contemporary than say, Cincinnati. And much more manageable than say, Chicago. And more varied and liberal than say, Indianapolis. (However, I think all of the foregoing cities are much more friendly and down-to-earth than anywhere I've lived on the East Coast!!!)
There is a lot to do in Columbus. I think it has been under-rated. I have lived in several other places and found it to be one of the most livable and engaging. The competition in the white collar economy is tough though.
And I didn't care for the pollution (very bad in Ohio!) or growing traffic...
But, you cannot beat the great, easily accessible (no tolls or parking hassles!), AND AFFORDABLE restaurants, sports events, art centers,
movie theaters, historic districts, shopping, and festivals!! I easily had a lot of fun there. I miss the Metro Parks, too, with far better urban planning & upkeep to enjoy than parts of Chicago or Houston (by a longshot!).
Columbus is a thoroughly modern city, but remains cozy, IMO. ;-)
I didn't even mind the sometimes bitter winter days or lack of blazing sunshine. Who needs a sunburn anyhow? ;-)
