Review of Columbus, Ohio

Your not missing a thing
Star Rating - 3/8/2008
There are a few leadership positions to be had in Columbus businesses by only the most elite African Americans. While the others go to uneducated white males and at any moment for any reason a African American could loose that position to an uneducated white male to whom they will pay twice as much as they paid the African American(back handed racism). This is what Columbus is made of and what the poles for the list that rank it highly for African American, miss. There is very little cultural activities for African Americans. I was born in KY and find the native African Americans here to be anti-social with a few exceptions. This is probably do to the heavy police involvement that takes place whenever they see "too many blacks" in one place at the same time.
If you want to come here, come expecting to work, there is nowhere to play. You will need to catch a flight to play. So, it is best for families with educated bread-winners. If you are not amoung the "elite Blacks", if you are young, single and into the social scene, THIS IS NOT THE CITY FOR YOU. You will remain single and waste your youth here.

Dam Nik you so right about the African American community here. When I first moved here from Cincinnati it was a relief to escape open straight forward racism. Once I got here it was clean I had me a job school was okay, But just like you said I start finding out very quick this city is not big on African American opportunity. the people here don't like individualism, free thinking, self expression, you cant just sell anything or do what you want you have to be a hard working slave or drug dealer(had to say it) you cant find your wife here every women here thinks the same, almost it seems. the transportation is horrible and if you not a bread winner and you homeless like me trying to get back on your feet leave this city now!!!! the youth are being mistreated not given job opportunities. its almost like Marshall law with the cops out here. and the whole black community who originates from here knows your not from here so people will watch your every move people are literally ran by money out here, there is no soul or dedication amongst the black community. every man for himself unless you belong to the native family. I lost my job, my license, I went to jail, and now school is not an option any more my so called friends only were around me before because I had money. and now I have not been able to get back on my feet for 3 yrs. this is not a place for out of the blue opportunity you have to be invited to this city or have roots here to enjoy the full functions of this city. once you get here kiss ass and whatever you do blend in with the natives. once you loose it you wont be able to get back on your feet,(none fact) The homeless rate is ridicules, the communities only serve small children and families with optimistic careers, so if your young and outgoing live in nearby Mt Vernon area or North High st. these are the only walking distant convenient places to access the single life. other then that don't come here expecting to network with people on a professional level don't think you will set up a small business. don't even think just get a job and do like every one else or be rejected by jobs, friends, even family if you African American coming from outside the city this place will change you for the worst, if your down to earth with people and think outside the box. but overall its clean, flat, convenient, and quiet, but transportation is a must no car no luck!
