Bridgeport is like every other large city

It's NOT the worst city in CT (check out Hartford and New Haven criminal records in the local library) but it has the worst reputation due to being in ritzy Fairfield County. Yes, there is crime. Cars are stolen. Jobs can be scarce. However, you take the same precautions that you would in any large and/or impoverish city (New York, Phoenix, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, etc. etc.) Currently there is a minor league baseball and hockey team, two theaters and one auditorium. I graduated from the University of Bridgeport. I was not born here but moved in 1980. I have lived in my current neighborhood for 20 years. There are homeowners on my block who were there before me. If things were that bad why would they stay after raising their children and grandchildren? A lot of people paint the city as one big slum with criminals lurking in every corner. There are projects as well as quiet, family-oriented neighborhoods, urban areas, a condo city and a section known as Black Rock with pricey $$$ homes. The thing that frightens me the most about Bpt. is the taxes. I hate having to pay an enormous amount in taxes due to mismanagement and a handful of corrupt politicians. That is why I would steer someone away from the area.
