Fairfield Glade is one of the major retirement communities in the area. It does impose mandatory fees for all residents which are intended to defray some of the costs for the use of facilities such as the recreational lakes and golf courses. Real estate sales are currently somewhat soft and vacant lots are a drug on the market. One factor which many found disturbing in the ice storm a few years ago was that the water towers did not have backup power and many had to leave while local power outages extended into more than a week. Many find the Lake Tanzi community to be much more affordable, however you need to be careful which section of Lake Tanzi to consider as some are not as nice as others.
