Davie prides itself at being a rural/horse community and zoning laws allowing riding on sides of roads and horse paths. Keeping horses in your yard is also allowed depending on the size of your yard which should be about an acre. But Davie also has the 'other side' where lower income families live to provide the limited labor needs of Davie located near 'downtown' Davie. Broward Community College is also located in Davie as well a other university branches like Nova and magnet high schools. The pressure to 'develope'----i.e. more dense housing, people, and greater tax base is there from the lower income housing areas who want to tap into the one acre estate owners life styles with more intense business ventures that would result in more traffic pressure. Davie is next to Weston and Cooper City with Weston being the 'high end' property area and Cooper City being the low end plot community built before Davie attracted the rich yuppies to build their estates there. So far, the development pressures have been halted in hard fought battles between the City Commissioners. One 'builders acre' housing still advertised at starting in the $700,000's.
