A nice 3 bedroom, tri-level or ranch with a two car attached garage sells in the neighborhood of $125,000 to $140,000. I have lived in Naperville, IL where the same home would be in the $250,000 and up range. Combined with a low cost of living, this area is a bargain for the retiree or professional. Some things have to be put in perspective however as the average wage for many positions in this area are lower than in the Chicago metropolitan area. A retiree that always wanted a victorian home on a beautiful tree lined main street can pick one up here though for between $55,000 and $125,000, and your dreams can come true. Delavan has a Parade of Homes for their winter festival, complete with carriage rides and hot chocolate served on the streets. Buy one of those homes and you can be part of the tours if you so choose, with the ticket proceeds going to the Delavan Historical Society and Fall Festival funds. Small town living at its best. We are half way between Chicago or St. Louis. 2 1/2 hours to either - it's your choice for a nice weekend get away. 3 hours to Indianapolis. Peoria and Bloomington, both within 45 miles, have great airports that run flights under $200 round to Florida. We are worth checking out if you are tired of the stress of the big city!
