Review of Denver, Colorado

uncultured red-necks?? really?
Star Rating - 11/3/2007
I am completely shocked at these people. Please if you have not been to Denver or Colorado, you have to see it. You people are out of your mind to say that this city is dirty, uncultured, narrow minded! Where do you people come from anyway? One woman said the she likes salt lake city better because she can run in the park and see Muslims in full garb and Mexican cholo gang members? What exactly is a cholo gang member sweetie, i'm curious? You sound very educated and aware of the "real world". I just moved to Denver from the east coast. I have lived all over the world from being in the military and have lived in three major east coast cities for a number of years. New York, Philadelphia, and most recently Atlantic City. These people are making comments like , I am moving to New York as opposed to Denver. HAHA....please be my guest. If culture is that important to you, by all means you will get a heavy dose of it there. I like New York because there is so much to do, but talk about dirty?? Denver is a whole other animal sister. Good luck if you don't want a dirty city. I feared for my life on so many occasions just on my daily routine while living in those other cities. I am a sturdy young man too. Why would anybody in their right mind want to live in some of the most expensive cities in the world (New York) where you can't even ride a train at night without the looking over your shoulder? I am clueless. If you think that being some "I live in NEW YORK" type individual who is pretentious because they make six figures in Manhatten is cultural, please don't come back to Denver. Oh, and if you've never been there before, see how far your six figure income goes living on the east coast, and see how many jobs are available to you. Oh and I forgot the insane property taxes and the absolute filthy appearence of your "cultural city". Enjoy. Denver, is the cleanest, safest city in the states that I have had the pleasure to live in. So what if people like sports here and talk about it often, does that make them ignorant? I personally can't stand sports but if people here enjoy them, i understand. To me, people in Denver live their lives. It was rated the "thinnest" city in America, because people are out and about, not sitting around looking for the negative like you people. They are active, "truly friendly", and some of the most educated people of any city in the U.S. We have just about the highest college graduate rate in the states, so do your research before you call these people ignorant. Maybe you people who knock it are the over weight, over analytical, unconcious droids from the east (which is my home remember). Thats fine...but don't knock this town because people are sporty and loving life, after all, nobody forced you to move here, you chose it. So do us a favor and go suffer the rat race in New Yorkor which ever city you see as better.

Hey there; I'm thinking of a relocation to Denver or Boulder and am very confused by the HUGE variation of people's opinions. People describe Denver as elitist, rude, dirty, etc., but I've lived in NYC and San Francisco and South Florida and I can tell you about rude pretentious and dirty. Are these just people who have never lived in a big city before and expect Denver to be like Mayberry? I don't get it. What are they comparing it to? It can't be that bad. Eric

Yo Shane - different strokes for different folks. I have been to NYC, several times, very recently, and I'm sorry but I just didn't see the "filth" - I was in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan. Is Denver a clean city?? Sure...I'll agree with that, just nevermind the smog. And no...i'm not some fat couch-potato with nothing better to do than be negative...i'm a runner; used to play soccer and do gymnastics. I've traveled/lived in different countries. It's just a matter of what you're looking for...you like Denver...that's great for you...I don't and therefore, I am being positive in that I'm actively in the process of moving out of here, rather than staying here and complaining. There are a lot of people who like it here, and there are a lot of people who don't find it fitting for them. I just believe in being/going where you feel at home and that is such a subjective, individual feeling/opinion. That's why there are differing opinions/views on where people like to live and why. Chillax, my friend, Denver's for you, but not for me. That's it. No worries. Cheers!

denver metro has some of the dirtiest air in the country: there may be several cities that have worse air, but denver metro's in the top 10% dirtiest (by many measures according to the EPA, not just the few the american lung association might use, for example). otherwise, i agree, much of the denver metro appears to be pretty clean and tidy. denver is also considered an "educated city", though i am not convinced that lots of people that have attended college are actually "educated" beyond knowing who their alma matter's playing in football next and what they might have heard on Fox News this morning. college does not necessarily = aware or interested, it seems to me. one periodical's "survey" indicates denver is one of the more "fit" cities based on numbers of gyms and bike paths for example, while another indicates it's the most "dangerously drunk" based on numbers of alcohol fatalities and cases of alcohol related disease. the sun shines at least for some of most days (while that may be between hail and a wind storm) in denver and the mountains have much to offer, while CO ranks poorly in terms of public education (which seems to pan out in terms of some of the grade school performance measures, for example) and social services -- help for those of us that might get sick or down on our luck from time to time -- support (due, ostensibly, to the Tax Payer's Bill of Rights - TABOR - in CO to some extent). supposedly, the economy is good here -- meanwhile, that might be the case for oil and gas, while layoffs are not uncommon in some other sectors here, yet plenty of people seem to work part time serving food etc.. denver metro is ranked by Forbes as one of the most indebted populations (credit-related debt) in the country, and has one of the higher rates of foreclosure in the nation. you can look all these things up online. in my opinion, people in denver can be pleasant, though not necessarily "engaging" or readily "close". it's nice in denver in some ways, and less so in others it seems. personally, i basically enjoy it, but i can see how some people have a harder time with it.
