Like many small towns, Du Bois has very friendly people, excellent access to healthcare (Du Bois Regional Medical Center is in town), diversity in retail and a fair transportation system (including well salted roads for the 5 months of winter here).
This town is NOT recommended, however, if you are in need of fairly paid employment, as noted by its declining population statistics.
Located 280 miles due west of New York City just off Route 80, 110 miles northeast of Pittsburgh (Steelers and Pirates fans dominate Du Bois), and 150 miles south of Buffalo, NY.
If you love deer hunting, this can be the place for you. First Day of Buck season (as in male deer), just after Thanksgiving, finds all public schools closed, as well as many businesses.
People and property crimes are relatively low here, though Du Bois has regional notariety for drug dealing and illegal drug usage in town.
Summers are very tolerable, actually preferrable to many places. Just come prepared with snowblowers and thermal socks.
