Review of Echo, Minnesota

I was born there
Star Rating - 5/2/2009
I was born in Echo, MN in my parents home in 1955 back when the doctor came to the house to deliver the babies if you wanted. I lived there until I was 9 1/2 years old. It was a great place to live back then. There were about 450 people in the town's population.
I have many fond memories of our years there. They had a dentist, a doctor, a drug store, a hardware store, a post office, two restaurants, the grain elevator, two gas stations, a bank, a municipal liquor store, a newspaper, a grocery store, a hotel, a laundromat, a John Deere implement dealer, the school and several churches. I am sure there other businesses then that I was not aware of. Many of them are gone now.
There use to be free movies outdoors by the grain elevator every Saturday night in the summer. It was a big deal for everyone. My dad owned the local egg produce there as well. They even had a police officer named Gus.
I became a nurse because of the nurse who took care of me at the Dr's office when I was four. I had to go in every two weeks for a blood test and she treated me so special.
We always played with neighborhood kids in the summer, and we knew when it was time to go home for lunch or supper or when it was 9:00 pm because the whistle blew.
There wasn't alot to do there but we made our own fun. There was a man who lived at the edge of town who had horses and he taught alot of kids how to ride horse.
We took swimming lessons in Granite Falls and rode the school bus to get there.
If the job opportunies were there I would move back to Echo. It was a great place to live. Sounds like it still is despite having only 247 people there now.
