Judgement. Arrogance. Victimhood. Anger. This is your welcoming committee when you move here. Apparently if you’re from any other state someone from Evanston has a negative comment/view that they’re more than happy to share with you. And they will.
As you acquaint yourselves with locals you’ll notice that anyone over 30yo the conversation will most likely steer to politics and conspiracy theories. In these conversations you’ll see the conjuring of various boogiemen they can assign blame to for how dissatisfied they are in their own lives without taking any accountability for their own decisions. If you don’t subscribe to their views of the world… watch out! One can only think limited socializing in a homogeneous, groupthink-like atmosphere that actively pursues anti-intellectualism hasn’t necessarily prepared them to shine in the areas of emotional intelligence, logical arguments, or polite debate. There is instead a feral arrogance of the Dunning-Kruger effect compounded by such a small confirmation bubble.
Are you from California, Oregon, the East Coast, anywhere that isn’t Wyoming or Idaho? You’ll be told to avoid divulging that information to others as a means to avoid being verbally attacked. Literally. As that’s exactly what happened to me. Basically, unless you’re from here, you’re very much unwelcome, unwanted, and the sources of everyone here’s pain.
Makes you wonder why most everyone’s kids left by their mid-twenties.
