Awful place to live...

Most residents are low-income and undereducated. Many pregnant teenage unwed mothers on welfare. (Montgomery County has the highest rate of population on welfare in the entire state of New York). Housing stock is cheap for a reason: it's old and falling apart. Property taxes are sky-high (normal for NY). The police chief is a heavy-handed Nazi who terrorizes law-abiding residents for fun. And the mayor is a slumlord who owns some of the village's most decrepit multi-family homes, which he rents to welfare families and drug addicts. The mayor also works as a janitor at the small high school, which has never heard of "No Child Left Behind". The school system has an extremely high drop-out rate. And marrying your first cousin seems to be more than tolerated. In fact, if Fort Plain is looking for a new slogan, it could well be: "Fort Plain: It's All Relative".
