Review of Frankfort, Indiana

Life long resident with an objective opinion
Star Rating - 4/15/2019
I've lived in Frankfort my entire life from age 5 on. I've traveled to London, Paris and Rome, drove from Frankfort to LA and Vegas, many times to Florida, twice visited NYC, and Chicago is just 2.5 hrs drive been there many times. Point is I've been a few places outside of Frankfort.
My most objective takeaway is this. Frankfort's strong points are cost of living and job availability. You can find decent work here. I worked at Frito Lay for 36 years and retired early. Frankfort is an extremely safe place to live and I love sitting outside at night because it is peaceful and quite.
The biggest downsides are access to quality healthcare in town (I drive 25 min to Witham in Lebanon a similar sister city just 17 miles south of town)
And recreational things to do within the city.
Things are improving however as the people and mayor recognize these shortcomings and have been improving with a 3 pond outdoor area called the lagoons that supports fishing, hiking and picnicking. And a nice large park on the north side of town.
Pizza places seem to be big in Frankfort as we have 10 of them, all different in types of pizza.
Authentic Mexican food is quite popular as well.
The Milky Way is the neighborhood hot spot for ice cream and all things delicious imaginable and is within walking distance from the major park.
The schools have been well financed and appear in great shape with constant improvements being made recently.
Frankfort use to be a pretty tough sell to an outsider but it's been growing and getting much better over the last 7 years or so.
Bottom line, it's not your everything to do place. You'll need to drive 30 min to get to Lafayette which I consider a decent size college town with far more amenities than Frankfort. Carmel is 48 min. With more upscale businesses.
But it's peaceful, outside the hustle and bustle of larger cities with far more saftey and jobs are plentiful. Small commutes to work so you are back with your family the rest of the day.
When I was young I swore I would leave the place because of boredom. But the older I get and see how easy life is here I start to see it as a good place to call home.
