The land of high taxes & bureaucracy

Franklin is a pretty decent place to live but we are continually surprised at the increasing taxes and bureaucracy of the city government. Although we pay some of the highest taxes of any nearby community, the schools still struggle with inadequate funding and overcrowded schools. Specifically, my kids can't get true computer classes until 5th grade. Until then it's just play time with computers. The city requires a permit to have a load of dirt or mulch dumped for my yard, and a never ending list of otehr "improvements". The good news is that crime is pretty low and traffic is a non issue compared to other major meetro areas. With the ongoing problems with the metro sewer district, water/sewer costs keep rising and the local electric utility has some pretty nasty rates. We've learned that Franklin has a terrible reputation for a lack of strategic planning for growth, and we've seen how this affects the placement of various developments. Again the good news is that at least when you contact the city about one thing or another, we get good response and city employees seem glad to help.
