If you plan to relocate to the Oxon Hill, Glass Manor area of Prince George's County Maryland; this would not be a place to move. They are located just outside of the South East section of Washington DC. This area is the most crime ridden area of our Nations Capital. Although the Peterson Group has built the National Harbor a few miles from this area along the Potomac River. They have hopes of this to revitalize the area with multi millon dollar condos, high end shops and the Gaylord National Hotel and convention center. It will take many years for the revitalization to take effect. Prince George's county has one of the highest counties in Maryland with foreclosures and a very high crime rate. More people have been moving to Charles county, Maryland with is approximately 18 miles to the south of Prince Georges. The people are moving becuase of the lower tax rates and to get away from the crime. Unfortunately the crime that they are trying to get away from has followed them down to Charles County.
I have worked in Oxon Hill for the past 29 years as a Funeral Director. We don't see the victims of the violent crime since we are a cacasion firm and the violent crime is mainly Black on Black. The next town from Oxon Hill is Fort Washington, Md. This area is a mixter of poor to affluent homes. The crime rate is a little better than what you would find in Oxon Hill / Glassmanor. Please check the area out prior to moving here. I work in Prince George's but life 26 miles south in LaPlata, Maryland. I would never live in the area in which I work. Be aware of your surrounding andjust be very careful.
