Obviously this review was written by someone who knows how great living in Knoxville is, and wants to scare people away from considering moving here because he doesn't want it to change or worsen, as often happens.
I moved to Austin, TX in 2007 and it was a great place to live for a few years, until Austin started topping all the charts of "best place to live in the US" and everyone from California and other extremely expensive states moved there in droves, trying to escape the high prices and improve their quality of life. Unfortunately, it caused property values to inflate drastically, traffic became unbearable, and overall the living standard went through the floor.
We moved to Knoxville TN in 2017 and have loved every minute here. We live minutes from the mouth of the Urban Wilderness, and only minutes from downtown. No, we don't have a 5 star rated restaurant on every corner, but there are plenty of great restaurants downtown, and besides, we moved here to simplify and spend less money overall. I love living so close to the Smokies, Knoxville is only a few hrs drive to many really cool places.
There are only 2 things that have really irritated me. The first that hit me in the face was the garbage. I have lived in IL, MA, and TX, and Tennessee and specifically Knoxville has a problem with litter. It seems to be more accepted here to litter, and I have a feeling it's always been that way. Secondly, traffic on the major interstates and highways is congested here, although nothing like Austin. Traveling to west Knoxville is worse, and one of the main reasons I chose not to live in that area of town, even though it's considered to be the "best" part of town.
Overall, Knoxville is a great place to live, although if word gets out, I may wish I hadn't replied to this comment!
