We have lived in LaPlata for 12 years. The town has a wide range of conveniences including a large community-college, a hospital, 2 department stores, 3 supermarkets, a Lowe's, well-rated schools, a seniors center, commuter busses, a little-theater, outdoor summer concerts and charming festivals in the modern downtown, much of which was rebuilt after the 2002 tornado. Fishing, seafood, and farm markets are not far away. Negatives are the high state taxes, and horrendous traffic for anyone commuting to the greater D.C. area, which a large percentage of local people have to do.
