I moved to La Plata in 2000 and noticed a tremendous push for new growth after the Tornado damaged the town in 2002. A local concern is the ability of the water supply to sustain the growth. Otherwise, it's a nice town to live in. It's approx. 27 miles to Washington D.C. It has a recently expanded Hospital in the middle of town, a Thespian theater, new eateries popping up every year, a Walmart, Lowes and several major grocery stores.
