Lancaster, PA, is bad for your health

The air quality is among the 10 percent worst in the country, I understand (from another website). I've also been told that children born here have a high percentage of asthma--greatly reduced if they move here after the age of two. Frankly, I do not understand why this should be unless most of the pollution is being carried here from the midwest. This is a largely agricultural area, but if there are polluting factories I doubt that they would be very closely regulated, this being one of the most Republican counties in the country (since the mid 1850s).
