Review of Las Cruces, New Mexico

Las Cruces Summer weather is HOT!
Star Rating - 7/1/2007
I can't imagine why this website says our July High temperature is in the high 90's -- right now it is July 1st and we have already been having temps aroudn 103 for over a week! HOWEVER, IT IS A DRY HEAT, SO IT REALLY DOESN'T FEEL AS HOT AS THE SAME TEMPERATURE IN HIGHER HUMIDITY. I really mean that. 95 degrees in coastal California used to knock me over, know here in Las Cruces, NM, I can handle 103 days just fine as long as I stay out of the sun, and drink A LOT of water. I do mean A LOT OF WATER.
Most homes here have evaporative cooling, rather than refrigerated air conditioning, so they dont' get as cool as you would like, but you really do adjust to the summer heat here. We just don't plan outdoor activities in the middle of the day during the summer.

Also, I was surprised they said we only had 292 days of sunshine per year here - I think it must be much higher than that! It hardly ever rains here, except during the monsoon season (yes, that it really what we call it, and all my friends from the Far East laugh their heads off when they get here and see our tiny little "monsoons"). It only snows here about once every 5 years, and then only for a day and melts by morning.

Really, if you can adjust to the summer heat, the weather is great.
