Louisville

While I have traveled extensively and lived between homes in this city and Florida, I have always maintained a primary residence in Louisville.
Louisville has the best and worst of what a city offers.
The advantages are:
- a small town atmosphere;
- relatively low cost of living;
- friendly people;
- easy to get just about anywhere;
- moderate climate;
- situated on the Ohio River;
- beautiful terrain with rolling hills, parks, trees and bluegrass;
- Churchill Downs and The Kentucky Derby;
- University of Louisville Cardinals Football, Basketball, Baseball, etc.;
- great restaurants;
- active arts, city events and festivals.
The disadvantages are:
- small town politics and cliques;
- distinct gap between advantaged and disadvantaged;
- inexcusable public school system;
- coal powered and polluting electric company;
- carcenogenic chemical manufacturing plants;
- polluted air;
- bankrupt sewer district run by mayor;
- poor land-use planning of farm land and undeveloped properties;
- no broad scale initiatives or coordination of government agencies, developers/builders and the private sectors toward conservation, green sourcing, open space and clean up of our city's air, earth/ground or water;
- job and economic environment remains stable, but flat, not dynamic or growing;
- no authoritative, effective citizen oversight of local government operations.
