Review of Louisville, Kentucky

Louisville - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Star Rating - 6/24/2008
The good - nothing beats the Kentucky Derby and the weeks leading to it. This it the only time this town becomes alive and fun. There are quite a few great and unique restaurants in the Ville that offer excellent choices. Churchill Downs and other attractions make this place what it is. Louisville is a good college sports town loaded with Cards, UK, and IU fans galore.

The bad - There is a large ignorant, racist, and uneducated population here. Living here for 6 years, I have found out that many are close minded and unwilling to change. Another bad, finding any type of career advancement positions is near impossible. Employers are not willing to pay college grads fairly. If you are looking to score a big salary, Louisville is not the place for you. Chair restaurants continue to move in and push the mom and pops out. It gets really dull and boring. Louisville tries to be a big city but is stuck in small town thought.

The Ugly - The TARC has to be one of the worst public transit buses that I have been on, you will need a car if you move to or visit this city. The cost of living is higher than what I expected. Groceries and goods are the same here as they are in Chicago and Indianapolis and gas is even higher in some areas. Gangs and crime continue to grow. There is not much to do outside of derby. The school system is not too good. And RACIST people once again makes my ugly list.

I just accepted a new job in another City. Louisville has provided me with good memories, but it is time to move on. Many Louisvillians seem to grow up and stay here and rarely travel to explore other areas of the country so their view of the rest of the world and content with Louisville can be expected. I would not say this is the place if you are looking for cultural and other activities and diversity. Besides drinking and bars, that is it. I am married and have a 4 year old and this is an average place for raising a family and does have many parks, but not much else.
