Review of Mableton, Georgia

It's meh, OK, but we're not staying...
Star Rating - 2/1/2019
Ok, Mableton is in Cobb county, one of the more progressive counties in the metro ATL area. And by progressive, I mean trying to improve its community for the better. There are pockets of higher crime as it is adjacent to Atlanta and Fulton county. The more affluent cities in Cobb are Smyrna, Marietta, Roswell and areas generally referred to as east and west Cobb. Mableton is an affordable community, but it does NOT carry the snob factor that other parts of Cobb county project. On the positive side, lots of jobs, home values are rising, the immediate area is home to Amazon distribution center, FedEx and UPS hub. Home Depot is HQ'd in Cobb county, as is Lockheed-Martin. On the negative side, crime, primarily property, however as ATL is so close, there is an overflow of violent, drug and related crimes as well. Traffic to the locals is bad. But I've never been "stalled" for hours in it, then again, I choose the times I "roll". I find it manageable, unless you have to drive cross counties, through Atlanta or get to the airport that you left too late for. It really isn't that bad....Patience is a virtue. What is bad is....Georgia drivers, and honestly, in most of the south, drivers SUCK. If you can think of a stunt, it's been done....dozens of times....since noon today. No signals, 4-lane cross overs at 80+ mph, somebody riding your butt, in the left lane, flashing lights and you're doing 85. And the lane to your right is wide open. 65 is not uncommon on arterial streets in town. Do not move to your right even if the emergency vehicle is right behind you....just speed up and don't let them pass. Put your signal on to tell ALL the cars behind you, that somebody three cars in front is turning, though you're not. Stop on the 5 lane divided road for a funeral procession going the opposite way in traffic. And you don't know who the hell it is. U-turns at most intersections are just fine. You will RARELY see a cop. You will DAILY see at least 1 accident, but at least you'll see the cop. This is NO exaggeration. We pay over $2k/year to insure 2 vehicles, and 1 is 18 model years old and we have clean records. Few vehicles have no body damage. And if it rains or a flake of S-N-O-W is predicted, well, Katy, bar the door--all hell's about to break loose.
