A state park named Hammonasset offers a boardwalk, a nature center, bird watching, rocky shoals as well as long stretches of sandy beach. Madison is only a short ride to New Haven and Yale University together with Yale Rep theater and Long Wharf theater depending on whether you opt for experimental or traditional dramatic experiences.
