Give yourself a 35% raise

Our banker said that if we moved from NY to one of the surrounding states we would give ourselves a 35% raise. We live in upstate NY in the Hudson Valley. There does seem to be a lot of "fees" around here and my property taxes exceed my mortgage. The school taxes are unusually high, and that seems a shame, because 50% of my daughter's eighth grade class fails state standardized tests. There are no tutors at her school, but the parking lot is FILLED with the cars of "administrators". There are 3 offices, 4 vice priciples, secretaries, assistant teachers, etc., etc., and yet no one could help me find a suitable summer school for my daughter who needs extra help in math.
