Do not move to Long Island, NY unless you are whit

If you happen to be Black, Asian, or Arabic origin, you will constantly be looked down upon and treated as less than human to your "white counterparts"... The racism here is preposterous; embarrassing nonetheless. Not to mention how the authorities view you, especially if you're Arabic or Black. You’ll be lucky not to be arrested for jaywalking, or running a stop sign. I cringe every time I see a police officer, just hoping I do not have a broken taillight or else I may be arrested for reckless driving… haha! Moving on; the best communities with the best schools, beautiful scenery, and low criminal activity (excluding sexual predators since they are a low priority) are 100% white, and that this how they like it. Diversifying a neighborhood is like committing an original sin?
The black neighborhoods tend to be louder, less safe (depending where you are) but the biggest issue is the schools if you have children. Housing is really expensive (go figure), and the majority of your neighbors are Hispanic. Notice they live in the black neighborhoods, not white. They are not allowed there. If you decide to move there anyway, your neighbors will make you feel so uncomfortable, that you would be willing to leave your home without even selling it. It’s truly sad that people are so rotten on the inside, and cannot be mature enough to understand that we all have to respect each other’s' differences.
My apologies, I'm getting off topic. Basically, where I'm going with this is, Long Island is very segregated and hateful (as NY already is to begin with). So unless you are Hispanic or white, you are better off living in NYC or Connecticut maybe. As the opportunities for employment, cater greatly to those of white and Hispanic origin here. Reason being, the jobs are extremely scarce, everyone takes care of their own; so if you are not super cool with someone in a very good position, you can forget about it. You can be an MBA graduate with a ton of experience; if they don’t “like you”, forget it. That is why most non-whites in NY are either self-employed or seeking a way out of here.

I had been raised in New York city. I resided in upstate New York Albany region and Suffolk county. My parents came from Puerto Rico and open a mini-supermarket. We went to Catholic school including my siblings and received a fine education. I became a medical doctor,my brother a high ranking N.Y.C. police officer, and my other brother an airline pilot. The thing I most cherished about New York was its diversity. This is what makes New York great. Some of my best friends are African-American, Jewish, Chinese, Italian, and Polish heritage just not necessarily Hispanics. This leaves alot of other people of mix or other heritage that were wonderful. Yes, there was racism. I remembered corrupted police officers demanding bribes from my father in order that nothing happens to his store. My father paid it. Interestingly, one of the events that motivated one of my brothers to join the police department to make a wrong a right. However,my father emphasized just because somebody does not like you because of their ignornace that you should react in a negative manner. He indicated that the best thing to do is to study hard and show by achievement and postive actions your worth and you do not need to be like but just respected. I am was grateful that in spite of clear discrimination towards each other that there were many bridges built by people of like mind and who shared the same values in spite of heritage or race. I cherish all my friends of different heritage and races which had made me richer in all aspects of my life. Like the old cliches- life is what you make it or you can choose to see the glass have empty or half full. Now New York City is great if you are well off. If you are working class it certainly can be a challenge. Now upstate New York is very affordable and beautiful. Now you must learn winter sports to enjoy the out doors year round. It took me a year to learn this. Crime is generally low. People are friendly. Real estate is reasonable. The schools are generally good if not excellent but steady erosion in gainful employment, earnings, and power of the dollar will be an increasing impediment in the years to come.
