We just bought a home in North Port. I had read alot of the reviews. I'm kinda amazed that people down in Florida complain about a 30 Minute commute and think that the cost of living is high. At least there are jobs maybe not what your looking for but there are plenty of minimum wage jobs available..yeah not a lot of money but in this economy ...and when you can buy a house in North Port for at low as $40,000. Come live up north. We commute an hour at least for jobs (if there are any)...in snow, and ice...Not in sunshine. Were not paid to much over minimum wage. Out taxes are 3 times what they are in North Port. You complain about the conditions of the roads? We live on dirt roads and dont have any gargage pick up. Some of our roads are not even maintained we have to plow the snow. Our housing market has come down to but you still cannot buy a house here any were close to $100,000 (and if you find one you need to put in about $30,000 to make it liveable). We have foreclosures and short sales and questionable neighbors to. We just pay alot more for everything. When we came down to look we couldve bought anywhere in Florida but choose North Port for the affordable housing, I think a beautiful area, the neighbors we meet (Yes the houses are occupied) have been wonderful. We love the mix of young and old people. When I go shopping up north I have to travel an hour and thats just to go to a Walmart. Down here, we can go anywhere withing 30 Minutes it takes me 5 Minutes to go food shopping or to go out to dinnner (we dont go out to dinner up North its to expensive). And lets not forget the beautiful YMCA 's (we dont have them) or your pristine beaches (Many, Many of them). I think if you look around and get involved North Port has alot more then you think. And if you think this town is the armpit of american you havent traveled out of Florida recently. Lisa
