Review of North Prairie, Wisconsin

Small town America
Star Rating - 3/13/2007
We just moved here three years ago because of a great opportunity to remodel a home. We have lived all over southeastern Wisconsin our whole lives. If you are looking for a small town, easygoing feel, this is it. We live about ten minutes in either direction from larger cities (Delafield or Mukwonago or Waukesha)and we have no grocery store, just a couple of venues and an all-purpose gas station. So if you like to shop or need the freeway, it's only ten to fifteen minutes of driving. Everyone is incredibly friendly and the school system seems awesome (we have a kindergartener).

Sometimes I hate driving ten minutes to get to the grocery store, being from more populated areas in the past, but the drive there is gorgeous, horse farms, corn fields, etc. At least for now. In fact, just beyond our back yard is a corn field, and it's lovely, but it has been sold to real estate developers. The houses are everything from fancy on a golf course to your quaint older home. Home prices are about 200,000 and up, and that only recently. It is a great place to raise a family if you don't mind feeling somewhat secluded.

It's Wisconsin, so the weather is really unpredictable. We get warm spots in January and cold spots in July sometimes and you just never really know what you'll get. Sometimes the temperature will fluctuate up and down forty degrees between days if there is some kind of weather pattern coming through. We are never caught without a blanket or jacket in the car. We get tornados, but around here not so much. Snow, yes, sometimes a lot, sometimes not. Winters can be bitter. This year was below zero at times. Summers are usually humid and mild but we usually get a few days of close to 100 degrees. It is a beautiful place to spend summer and fall because of the greenery and in fall the trees turn colors. And the Kettle Moraine forest is a mile from my home, lakes not far away.

If you can weather the weather it's a good place to live.
