Review of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania

Not a place to raise children (or anyone else)
Star Rating - 3/9/2018
As a resident, I can tell you this town is not family friendly. Crime is a major problem, yet the local police do not report the activity to keep the appearance of a low crime rate. This is because of their complicity with local drug dealers. You won't find any data on the drug problem in Phoenixville because the crime isn't reported.

I live in a neighborhood that has a high volume drug dealing operation in it. The cars line up in front of the dealers house. I cannot access my street to get home until the drug deals are complete. They sell all over the neighborhood, in front in in back of my home. They corrupt the children of the neighborhood. At least one family sent their child away in order to remove them from this environment.

The police are a big part of the problem. The drug house previously mentioned is two blocks from the police station. Yet the police avoid the area like the plague. Many of the neighbors have taken to becoming sellers for the dealers. The dealers have been embedded here for many, many years.

Since the closing of the Phoenix Iron Works, the town became economically depressed. It feel into disrepair. During this time, the drug dealers purchased much of the commercial real estate in the center of town. In conjunction with the town borough council, they obtained State and County funds to rejuvenate the area into a hip shopping and dining area. However, you cannot miss the drug dealers hovering looking to make drug sales.

However, there is a even more deadly problem in Phoenixville. The Phoenix Iron Works (PIW) was a iron and steel mill which employed many of the area residents throughout the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century. The iron works created environmental waste during it's more than 100 year history. In speaking to many of the old retired workers from PIW, I heard tales of people using the slag or other waste products (which contain heavy metals) as fill or driveway material. In my more than 11 years in Phoenixville, I've noticed a higher than normal population of people with cognitive disabilities. Researching the environmental data of the area, it seems many of the measurements show poor air and water quality.

There seem to be a lot of dirty secrets in Phoenixville. The local government seems to be getting paid to keep them that way. The police will not help you if you dislike their arrangement. My advice to anyone considering moving here is STAY AWAY!
