The taxes in Plainfield are very high. There is little industry and the town does not promote industry. Very stringent zoning laws. Plainfield is a bedroom community to Hanover, NH where Dartmouth College is located. We have become a community of doctor's and professionals who have built big homes or renovated older homes and the taxes continue to increase. However, it is like that almost everywhere in the Upper Valley area. This is a very difficult place for a single person to live on their own if they wanted to.
