I don't have a review. I actually have some questions. I read about the low cost of living in Pocatello. I am on disability and have an income of 952.00 a month. Is there a Section 8 voucher program in Pocatello? Is there a long waiting list? I have ADHD and Aspergers, and I'm just looking for a quiet town where people leave you alone. Also, public transportation is important. And, hopefully, some helpful social services, like medicaid. Some place where I can get a low-rent but decent apartment, with affordable utilities and groceries. Finding a nice, clean, modern, safe, quiet apartment with on-site laundry facilities, near public transportation, at a very low rent is my main priority. I am quiet person, I don't drink or do drugs, I'm just very introverted and would like to live somewhere where I wouldn't have to worry about being bullied or intimidated by aggressive people. I read that there is a large LDS population in Pocatello, and even though I'm not LDS myself, I am thinking maybe that means I would be surrounded by moral people. I would appreciate feedback from Pocatello residents!

Although I cannot answer all of your questions I will answer some. The housing cost has gone up drastically in the last few years. There is public transit the should be able to get you within walking distance of most places you would need to go. There are also apartments near grocery stores, etc. As far as mormons there are a lot in the area but a little less than in Idaho Falls. Generally they are decent and moral people. But they are also generally nosey until they find out if you are mormon or not. A fair amount of them will alienate you if you are not mormon like they're going to catch some communicable social disease. I know of people who liked this area but moved away because their spouse and child(ren) were treating treated like outcasts and were excluded simply because they were some other denomination of Christian (not LDS). I would guess yhere is a waiting list for apartments as they can seem to build houses and apartments fast enough lately. In some cases it looks like people are moving in to the new buildings as soon as or slightly before the construction is complete. We have thrift stores where cheap furniture can be purchased. There is also people on craigslist and Facebook who are giving away free furniture. I hope this helps.

I have a few more questions. Is there a bus station close to town? And maybe a shelter a person could stay at while they look for a place to live? I was just on Craigslist and couldn't believe how low the rents are. What about amenities close to Pocatello, like a bank and supermarket. Are they either in walking distance of apartment buildings, or is there reliable public transportation that goes there? I realize these are a lot of questions but I hope to get some answers. I am really not happy where I am now, a very corrupt town full of troublemakers. I just want to get on a bus and arrive someplace and start a new better life. Also, are there any charities that help out with furniture? Unless maybe I could find a furnished place. I would only be bringing clothes with me, and having things like boxes of books and dishes shipped out. Unless I could find a ride instead of taking the bus, maybe even find someone I know to move out with me, but I (we) would still need furniture because it's not worth it to move my worn-out furniture halfway across the country.

In response to Jim's comment regarding Libertarians - About 11 percent of the American public is libertarian, according to a 2014 study by the Pew Research Center, and men are twice as likely to be libertarian as women (15 percent vs. seven percent). The Pew survey also found that libertarians are typically higher-income, well-educated, and identify as being politically independent. Libertarians should not be confused with Liberals.

I have lived here on and off (mostly on) for 24 years. I am originally from SE Pennsylvania. I have no idea about section 8 availability, but no doubt it exists. There is public housing. The rents in general are pretty low, however, like anywhere else, you get what you pay for. The city is 55% or so LDS but doesn't necessarily mean you will be "surrounded by moral people." That varies, especially with the part of town you are in. The University area is not predominantly LDS but is a great (but less affordable) area to live. The really poor areas (cheapest rent) tend to be less liveable. Remember Pocatello is in the conservative rural West, where huge old noisy trucks and less than college educated Libertarian types predominate.
