West River is by far the beautiful side of the state. I am very blessed to have grown up here; the Black Hills are magical if you are an out door sort of person. Aside from the beauty, the people are kind but closed minded. The National average says the cost of living is cheap here but it isn't if you are middle class. It's quite difficult to find a job that pays more than $8.00 an hour. Most jobs are customer service jobs ( a lot of retail and fast food). Owning a home is cheaper than most other states but renting is pretty pricey.
There isn't much for entertainment except movies, bar hopping, or being outside.
Winters can be FRIGID and summers HOT.
It's a decent place to live, low crime rate and pretty quiet. However, it's also like living under a rock.
