Fun place to live if you can afford it

Reno is changing so fast its unbelievable. I like Reno because there's alot to do for such a small city from day trips to Tahoe to going to the rodeo, balloon race, barbecue cook-off, and casinos for when everything else closes at night. What I don't like is the increasingly hot weather during the summer with weeks of 100 degree temperatures and the inversion weather during the winter when the smog from the city including all the chimney smoke turns the valley floor air yellow and burns my throat (couple of weeks each year). Cost of living has shot up while the wage rate has remained stagnant so its no place for first time home owners. Its almost impossible to make a living wage if you are unskilled and can't pool your incomes with other working family members. Reno has been hit fairly hard by the real estate slump and "for sale" signs are all over the place. Bottom line, Reno is a nice place to live if you already have assets and want to be part of a growing city where things are heading upscale at a good clip - but if you are struggling financially - you've missed getting in at the bottom.
