Review of Rest,

one of the first planned neighborhoods
Star Rating - 10/17/2008
Reston claims to be an area of firsts:
1. The first integrated community in Virginia (by design)
2. The first totally designed community of middle density houses.
This means lots of townhouses (I am sitting in the middle floor of one such right now.)
3. It created a 'standard practice' of imposing household association fees,
rules and restrictions which spread across America like the Pox.

It has benefited from the continuous growth of the power of the federal government and hanger-on industries: corporate lobbyists, union lobbyists, lawyers and other special interest groups.

The Dulles tollway drives through the heart of Reston. It supplies access to the heart of D.C. and 'free' access to Dulles International Airport.

There are rumors that the Metro rail will extend to Reston by 2012.

It is proximate to the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, which is an excellent venue for a variety of acts in the Summer.

It has a lot to offer. I wish it wasn't full of people who think they know better than me how to spend my salary.
