savannah aka hell

You see my parents grew up in Savannah, and if there is one thing I always remembered that my mother frikkin hated it when she was growing up. So what did I do? Well, I moved down here from Atlanta. Big, fat, friggin mistake. The "public transportation" is a joke. There's no train. Half the bus drivers are preoccupied from their simple job of driving by taking ten minute long phone calls. The weather is atrocious during the summer. This summer alone, the heat index was anywhere from 105 to 115 for almost a week! The crime here is just atrocious. And every other day, it some poor, dienfranchised, dreadlocked, smugging, ugly youth. I've been to New York City twice and have gone out alone, all by myself and felt totally safe at midnight. Here, I try to avoid staying out after the sun goes down. Some places are just too creepy to walk by alone- and those are the suppossedly safe places. And it smells. My God it smells. It smells awful. It's not just the paper mills, but seriously, so many people down here who bathe sparingly together form a giant collective odor. People cannot drive for cheese. I've been a by a car once, and almost run over on several different occassions. And the worst part of it is the fact that racism is ridiculous down here. I'm saying that as a black person, that so many of the black people are so defensive down here that if you're not black like they are, if don't speak or dress or act like they do. I'm colored and somtimes even I feel so out of place among other blacks here. I mean, this is a beautiful city and all, but it wears away after a while- maybe six month to a year. Oh, and one more thing. It's really more of a pet peeve- there's only one Starbuck's in the entire historic district. The insanity has got to stop;(
