Savannah - One of the best kept secrets of the Sou

Having just read the commentary of a fellow Yankee who found Savannah to be one of the worst places in which he has ever lived, I felt compelled to rebut his editorial. I grew up in NYC and settled here 15 years ago. I now consider myself a native.
First, let me confirm that it is hot in the summer - but no hotter than many other more northern cities at that time of year. Never, however, have I seen a heat index of 120 degrees. Furthermore, the heat of summer is the price we pay for the climate we have during the rest of the year, which is generally glorious.
Second, if you're an incurable big city snob (as I was when I lived in NYC), you'll not like Savannah due to it's pictureque squares, historic significance, original Georgian architecture (remember, Sherman spared Savannah on his march through the South) and relaxed southern lifestyle. - Fortunately I moved to Savannah and was cured!
Third, although the public school system leaves much to be desired (as it does almost everywhere in the nation), there are numerous superb private schools which place many students in the finest colleges and universities in the country.
Fourth, Savannah boasts SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), considered one of the finest art and design colleges in the world. Due to SCAD, Savannah has a thriving arts, music and cultural activities community.
Fifth, Savannah and the surrounding area, is home to many of the finest golf courses and marinas in the Southeast. Additional activities include minor league baseball and the Savannah Adult Baseball League for those of us who still believe in the Field of Dreams.
Sixth, Savannah has superb medical facilities and physicians, many of whom have moved here from other areas of the country.
Finally, Savannah's cost of living is substantially lower than the average in the U.S. Consequently, Savannah and the surrounding area is one of the fastest growing retirement areas in the nation.
I could go on, but I think you get the gist of my opinion about Savannah.
