Taxes, Crime and Steep Housing Price Increases

July 2005 - Chatham County Commissioners voted to increase property tax levys. Services are poor - police services are abysmal, libraries are poor, crime is prevelant and the cops are all related to the criminals so don't expect much in the way of arrests. Neighborhood associations complain vigorously that cops are never are on the street - in fact, the average daily "absenteeism" of the policy force is almost 20% of the force is "ill" on any given day. No physical fitness standards are required for police - would venture that average cop is 60 to 70 lbs (yes that's right) overweight - they never get out of their cars. We had five murders in one week in July 2005 - See Savannah Morning News - this is a town of about 135,000 people.
