Review of Sequim, Washington

Sequim in general:
Star Rating - 2/24/2008
Lovely area, Minimal rain, but climate is cool, damp and sometimes a bit to windy from Pacific Ocean air coming down the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Cost of real estate is HIGH. Heavy influx of Californians having sold their houses-coming here to downsize, hense markedly driving up the cost of real estate. Now, Sequim is becoming over priced and over regulated. Lovely Sequim is no longer what it's supposed to be. New Washington State law now permits school districts to pass levies (taxes) with minimum 50% vote, heretofore required 60%. School taxes are about to go through the ceiling. Tax assessor is in the process of revising EVERYONES taxes this next biennium. Area was once great for fresh and salt water fishing. Steel-head fishing is still quite good-only if you know how. It's a tough great fish to catch, but only the locals do well. Salmon fishing is essentially gone: Two fish/day and a short season. Can't justify buying a nice Bayliner and the waters get rough beginning in the early afternoon. People now talk about "it use to be ..." Well, it aint now! Hospital some 17 miles away is a good one. Three golf courses in area considered average to good with year 'round golfing, but remember the area is always cool (not cold) and breezy if not windy in afternoon. With local and state tax, Washington especially Sequim (Olympic Peninsula) has one of the highest price/gal IN THE COUNTRY!
