Safe, affordable, friendly and vibrant!

Every community will have its share of bitter and ignorant louts like several of the preceding posters. Ignorance = living side-by side with college KIDS next to campus and expecting them to act like grown adults. Get real! We live less than five miles from the campus gates and I have never seen a college kid throw up in public, steal my patio furniture, or any of these activities that are probably limited to an obvious 4-6 block diameter. If these things bother you, move a few blocks as has been suggested. The winters are not harsh, they are quite mild by Northern standards. The sports teams, PSU and State High alike, consistently achieve at very high levels, there is a lot of cultural activity in town, the Festival of the Arts is a top national arts gathering every year. Summers are near 80 with relatively low humidity. There are countless nature trails and parks within walking or easy driving distance. Pittsburgh, NYC, Philly, Baltimore and DC are all within 4 hours driving time, and flights from SC are affordable if you plan ahead. The cost of living is affordable - I came from SF and got about 4 or 5 to 1 on my money buying a house. People move here to similar sized mansions and routinely have a half million in cash to seed their business start up. If you're an up and coming entrepreneur, the sky is the limit in SC. Families and retirees would do very well to settle here. Don't believe the haters, they exist everywhere and will just make you vain and bitter. They should go read the Desiderata and self-reflect. And oh, if you want good restaurants, try Zola New World Bistro, Alto, and the Carnegie House for world-class cuisine at top prices, and there is affordable Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese Noodle House, the new 'Benihana'-style Sushi House, and lots of other choices. I am almost always happy eating out in this town. There is also a new golf course in town, which brings the local area in line with demand. Come play!
