The best city ever

I lived in Topeka most of my life until moving to Katy, Texas...which is a premiere suburb of Houston. Topeka is genuinely missed as it is a superb community to raise a family in or explore and find things to do. In the past five years tens of millions of dollars in investments downtown have created a new energy with a luxury hotel opening in Spring 2019, a new hip barcade and restaurant, new breweries and tap houses and fine dining. In 2020 a $10M city plaza opens downtown which will feature 250 days of live music and events. The city features NOTO, a hip art district with galleries, shops, restaurants and an amazing First Friday Art Walk. Museums, a world class library, the State Capitol Building, multiple live theater venues, and Washburn University provide endless opportunities for art and culture. Wanamaker Road features a rich amount of retail and chain restaurants, and Lake Shawnee, Gage Park and the Kaw River Park offer beautiful outdoor hiking and opportunities to explore. The city also boasts a 3% unemployment rate with a diverse number of employers ranging from Security Benefit, BNSF, Advisor's Excel, Hill's Pet Nutrition, BCBS, State and Federal offices, etc.. Some will exaggerate the crime in Topeka...yes there is crime, as there is in any city, but if you are not involved in drugs, you will never run into it as unfortunately it tends to be centered in pockets in the community where drug use is high. The city has tackeled that by investing in community and opening up a new Washburn Tech East to target people in low income communities and give them hope. See for yourself, it's the best city ever.
