Haven't been here long

While I haven't been in Tucson long, my basic impressions are very good, with some decided difficulties.
Having lived for the last 20 years in decidedly more metropolitan areas and abroad, Tucson seems far more culturally isolated. For that, there seems to be a very distinctive Tucson culture that is intimately connected with it's climate and geography. The downside is that it can seem a little provincial, like a small town minus the small town intimacy.
Work here is pretty limited it seems. My overall impression is that people who move here do so because they want to live in Tucson, and not to advance their careers or find new ones.
Once you get out of the city itself (which is not particularly attractive), it is beautiful. Truly beautiful.
