Lack of leadership

Tucson is a beautiful place to live! I love it here. Make no doubt about it, the Tucson area offers some of the most diverse scenery and activities in the country. The Sonoran Desert is uniquely beautiful in the Tucson region and gives the area it's distinctive flavor. Unfortunately, the city is far from perfect. The city has had numerous chances, (freeways, Rio Nuevo downtown redevelopment, annexations, etc) to become a model of urban redevelopment and healthy growth. It continues to shoot itself in the foot, year after year by electing myopic, neighborhood activist, "eco-freaks" to the city council. These people don't understand the concept of consensus, compromise or doing what is good for the entire area. They seem able to deal only with their own small neighborhood issues and largely ignore the larger need. Nimby's have controlled this council for the past 3 decades and it is an ugly scene. If you move to the area, I suggest that you move to Oro Valley, Green Valley or one of the outlying communities as you will be dissappointed in the 'do nothing' elected officials that control this city.
