Tucson, Arizona: The best of the West

I have lived in Tucson for 10 years now, having moved from California in 1999. If you love a desert environment and city services and variety without that big city feel, you will probably like Tucson.
Tucson has all the beauty of the desert surrounding it. We have four mountain ranges around the city, and it's an easy drive to get into them and out of the city when you need to. One of the things I've always loved about Tucson is that it still feels like a smaller town, but has all the facilities of a bigger one like Phoenix, and much more beauty. We also have an artist heritage, with many fine artists in the community, as well as writers and one of the finest universities in the nation, The University of Arizona. We also have many fine museums in town.
If there's anything to complain about, it is that the city has grown too much too fast in the last 20 years. We who love Tucson want to keep that friendly, small town feel, and we feel too much growth will spoil that.
But overall, I think Tucson is one of the most beautiful places to live, and one of the most affordable.
