Review of Tulsa, Oklahoma

crime
Star Rating - 5/30/2006
Tulsa does have a very high crime rate, but I have lived around the area long enough to know that the high cime rate areas are all the areas in the north and northeast portions of Tulsa. Highway 51 basically divides Tulsa. Everything south of 51 is great and everything north needs to be avoided. The parts of Tulsa by the river in the central area are nice as well as all of south Tulsa. Crime is real bad in north and northeast Tulsa especially around the Turley area, but if you live south of highway 51 you have nothing to worry about. I love Tulsa and I would not want to live anywhere else.

I do not agree. I grew up around Tulsa and lived there for 2 yrs. Tulsa's "crime rate" has more to do with people not being careful. How can you can sit there and say that one is crime free south of 51? That one "has nothing to worry about"? WOW!!! Do you not understand that the have-nots (North Side) take from the haves (south side) and quite frankly for a city of its size there isn't a mass amount of crime. Try living in a city of 40k and a property theft rate almost as high as Vegas - with none of the cultural perks. Tulsa is a beautiful town and if one is aware it is just as safe as any other town of it's size. I worked at 15th and Lewis in an outdoor tent for Under the Sun Garden Center as well as their south Tulsa location. Crime is everywhere. One location wasn't safer than the other. I too love Tulsa, it is errant to give the impression that it is overrun with crime.
