Not what it's cracked up to be

I lived in the Kempsville borough of Virginia Beach in 1997 and I was disappointed by the gang related crime and neighborhood blight around Salem and Indian River Road. First of all, the majority of Virginia Beach is no where near the water, most people live inland, into crowded and identical subdivisions with paper thin walls built in the 1970s and 80s. Virginia Beach was very boring and anything of interest you have to jump on Interstate 64 to get to including basic libraries and hospitals. Most Kids in Virginia Beach have nothing to do but join gangs and commit pety property crimes such as vandalism and robbery. The gangs at Salem High School pressured my friends out of the area, one left Va Beach for Norfolk. By the way DONT LIVE IN GREEN RUN. Drugs are very rampant among the youth of Virginia Beach and some High Schools sell them in lockers like Cox and Salem High School. Virginia Beach is not what its cracked up to be and anyone living there should be prepared for big city crime.
