Virginia Beach is the largest populated city in Virginia with 450,000 people and the area know as Hampton Road (6-cities, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, New Port News, and Suffolk) contains 1.3 million people. The Hampton Roads area is the largest metropolitan area without a major sport team. The beach and a stable economy play into the popularity of the area. The military bases make the city attractive for military retiree. All these items and the weather make Virginia Beach and the surrounding area an idea place to raise a family. The steady migration of Northerners from New York and other places north has made a tremendous difference in people settling in this region. The state of Virginia has not been able to make in roads with the infrastructure dealing with roads. The area is surround by tunnels and during any time of the day there can be a backup on any of the roads connecting the cities. Grid lot can be a very real problem.
