Review of Virginia Beach, Virginia

Thinking of relocating to Virginia Beach, any feed
Star Rating - 2/20/2007
Hi everyone. Stumbled upon this website while trying to research best cities to live in america.
My fiancee and I currently live on the west coast, and are seriously thinking of relocating to the east coast. He lived in Maryland D.C area for about 10 years, and he just prefers the east coast. I myself am a California native and have been trying to convince him to think of moving back to Cali with me (which isn't looking so great). He first offered Miami, but when I went there for new years, I loved the wheather, and the scene was pretty upbeat, but not the most ideal place to start a family. So he mentioned Virginia beach. I have never been there, and hopefully I'll get to visit before we decide to move. I'm 25, he's 37, what the median age range? I hear real estate is doing great over there, which would be perfect for me since I'm a realtor and he's a loan officer. I hear the prices of homes are unbelievable cheap as well.
So any feedback would be good. Ofcourse, I'll have to be the judge of that after I visit.
Thanks!

im a vab native, my dads one of the larger builder/developers in the area. housing is terribly overpriced, but thats what you pay to live in a resort town. If you make REALLY good money va beach is a great place. its quickly outgrowing the roads though. traffic is getting ridiculous. all the military gets off at the same time, so forget going anywhere from 4-6pm. it will always be my home, and i love it. however cost of living is staggering. the city is..slack. the police, my god they are oppressive. crime is on the climb, education is mediocre. if you can live in cox or first colonial district do it! so basically if you cant afford to live at the north end of the beach or croatan, maybe even down on chics beach i would avoid the area altogether. oceanview {in norfolk} has a bad rep but the place has gone through a very impressive rehab. best bang for the buck in my opinion. just be aware that it was created by a hurricane and will eventually be destroyed by one!
