Review of Virginia Beach, Virginia

"Virginia is For Lovers, Especially Virginia Beach
Star Rating - 2/12/2008
Come July, it will be five years since I moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia and my love of living here continues to burgeon. I visited here in 1987 with a group of people when my cousin was stationed at the Norfolk Naval Base while he was in the navy and my desire to live here one day was due to that visit; the city impressed me that much. I was fortunate to meet a woman who is now my wife who, coincidentally enough, was born in Virginia Beach and has family living here. Needless to say, it didn't take much persuasion to get her to move here. In the several years from when I visited to when I moved here Virginia Beach has grown tremendously and just about everywhere you go there is building still going on. The oceanside is constant with activity especially, of course, during the summer time. There are many different types of restaurants, many which are very good so, regardless of what kind of food you are in the mood for, you will find it in this city. The entertainment is first rate. Along with the shows that can be seen in the new state-of-the-art theatre which opened during the late part of last year, there are a multitude of concrts given right on and near the beach boardwalk with well-known groups like Kansas and the Charley Daniels band being some of the top-notch entertainers. There isn't a shortage of housing but the prices for the houses are still, in my opinion, on the high end due to Virginia being one of the upperscale cities of Virginia, even though it is currently a buyer's market throughout the country, for the most part. Within an hour's drive or less, there are museums of all kinds, amusemnt and theme parks, water parks, a go-cart track, beautiful parks, and some of the best fresh and salt water fishing you'll find anywhere. There are festivals going on year round and the state is quickly developing a reputation for being one of the best new wine making states in the country. The people are generally quite friendly and the police department is one of the best I've ever seen. It truly takes a no-nonsense approach to crime. Politically, Virginia is primarily a Republican state. Whatever it is you are looking for, here in Virginia Beach you will definitely find it.
